Mrs. Beal was born January 7, 1930, in Chicago, to Michael Anthony and Philomena Cos- grove McNulty, the second of their three children. Mrs. Beal graduated from Academy of Sa- cred Heart in Lake Forest, attended Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and graduat- ed from Barat College in Lake Forest. She was married to Frank Shouse Beal of Jacksonville, for 53 years, and they have four children and 11 grandchil- dren.

Mrs. Beal was devoted to her family and her faith and was a very active member of Saint Mary Our Lady of Ransom Cath- olic Church in Georgetown. She and her husband were also in- strumental in the early 1960s in the formation and development of the modern Republican Party in South Carolina. Mrs. Beal was predeceased by her husband, her mother and fa- ther, and her sister, Angela (Mrs.

Donald B. Ambrose) of Winnetka, Ill. She is survived by her son, Frank S. Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth of Columbia; daughter, Karen B.

Born June 1, 1919, in Farmsville, TX, she was a daughter of the late William Washington and Girtie (Bowers) She was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbia, for more than 35 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Freeman, with whom she shared a union of more than 66 years. She is survived by her chil- dren, Jerry L. Freeman (Judith) and Rosemary F.

James Mi- chael Griggs of Youngsville, North Carolina passed away at his home late Monday evening, August 19, 2013. Mike was an accomplished pianist and passionate about music, boating, expensive cars and his Harley motorcycle.

His family considered him Paul number one fan. He loved the Lord and was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Wake Forest. He of- ten worked with the group on Wednesday night dinners and other church proj- ects. He was an avid fan of Duke Blue Devils basketball and the South Carolina Gameco*cks. He held the position of president for the Association for several years.

Hubble died Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Born in Water Valley, she was a daugh- ter of the late William C. and Vesta Brazeal Vaughn. Ann Hubble was a wonderful wife and parent. She loved people and they loved her.

She was an accomplished decorator. Mrs. Hubble attended school in Water Valley and graduated in 1943. She married James E. Hubble two weeks before he was drafted during WWII.

He became an of- ficer of the U.S. Army during the war. During the 28 years of her military service, she was a beautiful wife who was widely admired and loved by all who knew her. She was a loving mother to her two boys. Her husband, her two sons and her grandchildren were the joys of her life.

The family would like to thank Betty and Faith, her caregivers, for their love and care during Mrs. final years. In addition to her husband of 70 years, James E. Edith Gill McMahan CHARLOTTE Edith Gill McMahan, a resident of Char- lotte, N.C., since 1988, died in the Stewart Health Center Au- gust 15, 2013, after a long ill- ness. Born November 15, 1918, Edith grew up in Salisbury, N.C., a daughter of Grace Simerson Gill and John McKenzie Gill.

She graduated from Columbia Bible College (now known as Columbia International Univer- sity) in 1946. She married W. Thomas McMahan, Jr. on No- vember 15, 1947, and they set- tled in Columbia, S.C., where they worked and raised their three children. Thomas was the Religion Editor for The State newspaper and later was em- ployed by the S.C.

State Hospi- tal, helping William S. Hall, M.D. with various public rela- tions projects. Edith was a stay- at-home mother until 1963 when she began her teaching career. She taught special education at Congaree Elementary School.

She was widowed in 1968 and continued teaching until 1984. During this time Edith devel- oped a number of new ap- proaches for helping deeply troubled and mentally chal- lenged students develop basic life skills, equipping dozens of youngsters to lead independent lives. Edith lived a life of strong, un- wavering faith in the Lord Jesus, and firmly believed in the power of prayer to change lives. She was considered a war- by her family. Over the years Edith taught a number of adult Bible Classes and was known as a powerful Bible ex- positor, with a focus on practical life application of the Scriptures.

Most recently she was a member of Church at Charlotte, an Evan- gelical Free Church and partici- pated in the prayer ministry there until she became home- bound six years ago. Edith was also an avid reader, who enjoyed a variety of authors ranging from Charles Spurgeon (her favorite theologian) to Louis Amour westerns. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great storyteller. She enjoyed following professional football and golf. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mar- garet Gill Kincaid and Mary White Gill Smith, and a niece, Nancy Kincaid Routh.

She is survived by two sons, John Tho- mas McMahan and his wife, Lynn, of Chicago, IL, James Gill McMahan and his wife, Patricia, of Dix Hill, NY, and a daughter, Mary M. Christenbury and her husband, Jonathan, of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by nine grandchildren including Trevor McMahan and his wife, Amalia, Ryan McMahan and his wife, Crystal, Paul Stege and his wife, Erin, Nicole S. Brown and her husband, Rory, Chris McMahan, Jonathan McMahan and his wife, Lori, Katie M. Pulli and her husband, Mike, Joseph Christenbury and his wife, Ka- thryn, and Liz Christenbury; 11 great-grandchildren with num- ber 12 due in October 2013, and her nephew, Raymond Douglas Smith of Olney, MD.

While working for the airline, she met and married Ivey Earl Phillips March 11, 1960. They relocated to Cleveland, Tennes- see, and had one child, Robyn. Job changes led them to Texas and finally to Irmo, South Caro- lina, where they lived for years.

She was involved with the church at Dutch Fork and a wonderful group of friends with whom she lunched monthly. Mary leaves behind her hus- band, Ivey, of 53 years, daughter and son-in-law, Robyn and Scot Thurman of Eureka Springs, Ar- kansas, and two grandchildren, Lila Claire and Matthew Thur- man, also of Eureka Springs, who were the joys of her life. She is survived by three broth- ers: Glen Roy Willis (Joyce) of Akron, Ohio; Walter Willis (Jan) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Fred Willis of New Matamors, Ohio; and 11 nieces and neph- ews.
