Todd Jansen and Jay Austin were the quarterback, Cornelius Greene, carried 14 times for 88 yards. The Buckeye defense put a lid on Washington State's offense, lapsing only once, for Joe Danelo's 41 yard field goal with just 22 seconds left in the half.

The setback sent Washington State home with a 1-3 mark. Bulldogs score 21-8 win over Winneconne assured the team would remain at the top of the Associated Press college football poll. Elia, subbing for the injured Harold "Champ Henson, bulled 17 yards for Ohio State's first touchdown in the second period, then rambled nine yards for a score in the third. Griffin, the nation's seventh leading rusher going into the game, tore through the Cougar defense for 128 yards, scored on a six-yard pass and ran one over from 26 yards. The visitors, game but outmanned, held Ohio State without a first down through the initial quarter, but gave way to an 80 yard drive the first time the Buckeyes got the ball in the second period.

Elia, a 214-pound converted linebacker, packed the ball eleven times for 57 "yards, and Ohio State's starting COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP)-Fillin fullback Bruce Elia scored a pair of touchdowns and speedster Archie Griffin added two more as top-ranked Ohio State belted Washington State, 27-3, in a non-conference football game here Saturday. LOUIS (AP) -Ken Stabler will start in place of Daryle Lamonica as quarterback for the Oakland Raiders against the St. Louis Cardinals in their National Football League game Sunday.

"It surprised me a little," Stabler said Friday of his talk with Coach John Madden before the flight from Oakland. "I don't look at it as my chance to be the starting quarterback permanently and I don't think I have anything to prove. That was done in the past," Stabler said. Stabler has been understudy to Lamonica since joining the club four years ago. He has thrown only six passes this season, completing four for 43 yards, with the other two intercepted.

Lamonica has completed 24 of 51 for 299 yards with four interceptions. Pool Leagues VALLEY LEAGUE Buzz' Bar (23-13) beat Skunk Hill (20-16), 6-3. Techlln's (22-U) beat Five Corners (10-26), 7-2. Beaver's Hut (20-16) beat Relland's (13-23), 6-23. Log Cabin (19-17) beat Home Tavern (17-19), 6-3.

With Snyder again mixing the pass and the run well, NL roared back for their first third quarter score of the season when Rohan capped a 77-yard drive with a 1-yard plunge. The lone Winneconne score came in the final period when QB Gary Otto threw five passes and took advantage of costly Bulldog penalties to lead a 99-yard drive.

BY JOHN LEE Post-Crescent statf writer 'NEW LONDON An alert New London offense led by senior running back Bill Rohan's 66 yards and two touchdowns and the pin-point passing of quarterback Jim Snyder sustained three long scoring drives to roll past the Winneconne Wolves for their first conference win, 21-8. The Bulldogs, amassing 136 yards on the ground and 160 passing used seven ground plays before Snyder hit Randy Kaepernick, the league's leading receiver for a 15-yard TD to cap a 59 yard drive. With the NL defense holding the Wolves to just 69 yards on the ground in the first half, the Bulldoes used three running and three passing plays with Snyder hitting one pass to Kaepernick and two to tight end Tom Stoeger, to put together a 63 yard drive. Rohan scored Tremendous Selection of TROPHIES leading rushers for the Mustangs, as Chargers Jim Ostrowski and Dan Beversdorf led their team in rushing statistics Todd Jansen scored the first Little Chute TD as he shook off three would-be tacklers. The run was for 24 yards, yards.

When the Chargers couldn't get first downs on the ground, Peter Krull was doing an excellent job punting. WB didn gain too many yards on the ground, and quarterback Tim Haupt took to the air until he was sidelined with an injury. Dan Beversdorf then took over at the Charger helm. With Todd Jansen, Ken Van Gompel, and Jay Austin TD's in front of them, Chargers launched an attack from the 24 yard line as Ostrowski intercepted a Mustang pass with 24 seconds remaining in the half. A TD pass from Haupt to Krull was called back because of a holding penalty, and the Chargers were allowed to make one last play in the half with no time showing on the clock.

With 10:26 remaining in the third quarter, Little Chute quarterback Steve Hinkens went over the goal line for the fourth Mustang TD of the game. The PAT attempt failed. Deep in their own territory, in the fourth quarter and unable to get a first down, WB was in trouble until Peter Krull recovered a bad snap and launched a punt 55 yards to ward off another Little Chute TD. The ball changed hands three times in the last of the fourth quarter to make the Charger's 2-point saftey possible. WB's Kelly Wolff intercepted a Little Chute pass on the Mustang 34-yard line, and it looked like a chance for the Chargers until quarterback Hinkens intercepted a WE pass on his own 2-yard line.

Two plays later, Dan Beversdorf dumped Rich Vander Wyst in the end zone for the Chargers only points of the game. The Mustangs, who are now 4-0-1 in the Central Wisconsin Conference, again tied Manawa for first place. Little Chute is 5-0-1 overall. (AP) -Michigan's Larry Cipa came off the bench after three years of backing up starting quarterbacks to sparkle the fifth-ranked Wolverines to a 24-0 college football victory over Oregon Saturday. i After watching the Wolverines keep the ball almost exclusively on the ground for three weeks, Cipa, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound senior, threw for a total of 83 yards, including a touchdown toss to tight end Paul Seal. Cipa was starting his first varsity game as quarterback Dennis Franklin sat out the game with a broken index finger suffered on his left hand in practice during the week. Another non-starter, tailback Gil Chapman, provided the spark for the Michigan ground attack with an 83-yard, team record-tying punt return for a touchdown in final quarter. The triumph was the fourth in a row this season for Michigan, against no losses, and was the teams second shutout in a row.

Oregon is now 0-4. Michigan had a difficult time getting untracked. After a scoreless first quarter, the Wolverines unleashed a 14-point scoring attack in the second quarter, including Bob Thornbladh's one-yard scoring run and Cipa's TD pass. WE'RE OPEN MONDAY 9 A.M. to 9 P.M.
