Recently, I appeared in a competition of Tableau Viz where I participated with the following dashboard. Critics are welcome to comment. Highlight: The global video game industry has been a multi-billion dollar business for many years. In this report, we have analyzed a dataset comprising 11,493 video games across 12 genres, published by 579 companies, and played on 31 platforms from 1980 to 2020. Starting with total sales of $11.4 million in 1980, the industry saw a peak of $678.9 million in 2008, followed by a significant decline. North America has consistently accounted for 50% of global sales. The PlayStation platform, Nintendo as a publisher, and the game Wii Sports have had the most substantial impact on global sales trends.Viz available: https://lnkd.in/gHyqn3Sa#Tableau #Visualisation #data #analysis

# Games insightsFlex looks at 2-3 data types primarily in a typical gaming profile. "Games" data, like what you've played and how much, and in-game performance data like achievements are so far the most insightful.A couple core insights from the Games data:1. When a player play a game, they have a good familiarity with that game 😂 🤔 2. When a player play a game, they gain a familiarity with the genre / category it belongs to3. Some players play games more or less than peers -- both in aggregate and by-game4. Some players play more *different* games than peers#1 and #2 are obvious, but deeply understanding certain products and genres is obviously potentially interesting / important if you're going to be building those products. #3 we're not totally sure about (especially until we're multi-platform) but it's worth examining. Is there an attribute set for what used to be called the 'serious' or 'hardcore' gamer? Who even is that person in 2023? That's now pretty toxic terminology sometimes. And then #4 is probably the most "hypothesis-y". Is there a player profile in the types of games you choose to play? If you have lots of game-hours, and a high ratio of games to hours, is there an "afficionado" identity you might belong to? What about classifiers? Is there a Stardew Valley + Farmville + Astroneer classifier of some kind? Or a Kerbal Space Programme + Microsoft Flight Sim one? More to come. Update sometime this week I expect.
